Where possible, employees are encouraged to use Amtrak-owned PC’s or laptops for their remote access requirements. Employees who wish to use personally owned PC’s or laptops for remote access may do so, with the following understanding:
  • The Amtrak RAIL program is VOLUNTARY and is provided as a convenience to employees. It provides Amtrak employees with quick and easy access to Amtrak’s Intranet web page from their home PC.
  • While no problems are anticipated with the installation or use of the software, Amtrak does not warrant or guarantee that the software will be compatible with the operating system or with the applications installed on a non-Amtrak issued PC or laptop. The installation of the software on a PC or laptop can affect or be affected by modifications made to the PC’s operating system and/or other software applications. The Amtrak Help Desk at 1-800-772-help (1-800-772-4357) or VPNM@Amtrak.com  is available to help employees in installing or using the software.  
  • As always, it is highly recommended that you backup your data periodically and prior to installing any new software on your PC or laptop.

FYI: If you are not a current user of the Amtrak Remote Access Intranet Link (RAIL), you must submit a Customer Service Request (CSR) through eTrax for approval before downloading and installing software. Without approval you will not be able to register or use the RAIL system. Please include your external email address in the CSR. Once the CSR has been routed and approved, you will be notified by email with instructions for installation and registration. If you do not have access to eTrax, please email your request to VPNM@amtrak.com. Your interest and cooperation is greatly appreciated.
